Revd Will Fairbairn announced as new vicar of Redland Church, Bristol

The Bishop of Bristol, Rt Revd Vivienne Faull, is pleased to announce that Will Fairbairn has been appointed vicar of Redland Church in Bristol.

Will has been curate of Ascension Church in Southampton since 2017. Prior to that he spent three years at Ascension in a similar role as part of his ordination training. Over the last six years, Ascension has experienced significant change and growth. It has moved from being a declining church with an ageing congregation to a church of around 150 people. The majority of the growth has been with the missing generations - namely those under 40. Will also worked at Highfield Church Southampton as student pastor.

Will, who has a degree in mathematics, is married to Katie, enjoys running, golf and good food. He grew up in Bristol and is excited to return to the area.

Will said: I am so excited to join the team at Redland Parish Church as we embark on this next season of ministry. Redland has a rich heritage of focussing beyond itself and seeking to bless the city; a foundation we will continue to build upon.

I am particularly looking forward to joining a church and diocese that are passionate about putting discipleship and engagement of younger generations at the centre of what they do. There is no reason why the church in this nation cannot once again be bursting with young people. Jesus is good news for all, we just need to find ways to communicate that effectively to all generations.

Bishop Viv said: I am delighted that Will has agreed to join us. He comes with a rich set of skills honed during his time in Southampton. Redland has long been a blessing to the city of Bristol and wider Diocese. We pray for him and Katie as they prepare to move to Bristol."
