It is with deep sadness that the Diocese of Bristol announces the death of the Revd Anthea Annaleze Anthony on 18 June, following a long illness.
Anthea was ordained deacon in Bristol Cathedral by the Rt Revd Vivienne Faull, Bishop of Bristol on 2 July 2023. She was subsequently ordained priest on 29 June 2024. Arriving to train for ordination at Trinity College, Bristol in 2021, Anthea was sponsored by St Albans Diocese. During this period, she undertook a placement at St Peter’s Henleaze.
During her curacy, Anthea served in the benefices of St Paul’s Bristol and St Anne with St Mark & St Thomas Eastville as well as in Bristol Cathedral.
The Rt Revd Neil Warwick, Bishop of Swindon, paid tribute to Anthea saying:
“Anthea was known to be a person of deep-rooted faith and resilience. Her propensity to accompany people on their spiritual journeys was one of her many gifts, with a natural ability as a teacher and a warm pastoral heart.
“The fruit of Anthea’s priesthood lives on in the people she has taught to love, hope and trust in God.
“May she rest in peace and rise in glory.”
We offer our condolences to Anthea’s family and friends and hold them in our prayers.
A Service of Thanksgiving celebrating the life of the Revd Anthea Anthony will take place on Friday 11th July 2025, 12:00 pm at St Peter's Church, The Drive, Henleaze, Bristol.
