Revd Ness Brunner-Ellis licensed as Vicar in Warmley, Syston & Bitton benefice

The Diocese of Bristol is delighted to share that Revd Ness Brunner-Ellis has been licensed as Vicar in the benefice of Warmley, Syston and Bitton.

Revd Ness was licensed by the Rt Revd Neil Warwick, Acting Bishop of Bristol, at St Barnabas, Warmley on 25 November 2025.

Revd Ness began her working life as a professional musician and conductor, playing both violin and organ and teaching piano. She first felt called to ministry in her late 20s, however, it wasn’t yet the right time and she chose to train as a Psychiatric nurse. This led to a 16-year career in the NHS with a focus on family groupwork and eating disorders.

Following her time in healthcare and a further sense of calling to ordained ministry, Ness pursued the vocational discernment process towards ordination. She studied theology at Sarum College, was ordained in Bristol Cathedral in 2014, and served her curacy in Marshfield in North Wilts deanery.

Speaking about her new ministry, Revd Ness said:

“Having studied in Bristol as a Psychiatric Nurse and worked here for the best part of 20 years (but always commuting from Wiltshire where I raised my children), it’s wonderful to be living here finally and in an area I know well. I was ordained in Bristol in 2014, serving my curacy in Marshfield benefice and then ministering in Oxford Diocese for 8 years. I’m thrilled to be back here, taking up the role of Vicar in Warmley, Syston and Bitton.

The Rt Revd Neil Warwick, Acting Bishop of Bristol and Bishop of Swindon, said:

“It was a joy to license Ness as Vicar of Warmley, Syston and Bitton and lovely to see everyone at the service to welcome her. This is a good and positive moment for Ness and the communities in the benefice.”

Please join us in praying for Revd Ness as the begins to serve and share the love of God in Warmley, Syston and Bitton.
