Revd Dr Andy Murray appointed Chaplain to the High Sheriff of Bristol

Emma Murray, Anne Nisbet DL and Revd Dr Andy Murray at the appointment of High SheriffRevd Dr Andy Murray, Dean of Priority Communities for the Diocese of Bristol, and Vicar of Lawrence Weston and Avonmouth, has been appointed Chaplain to the High Sheriff of the County and City of Bristol, Anne Nisbet DL. 

Andy joined civic dignitaries, members of the judiciary and other guests at Bristol Crown Court on 17 March 2026 for Mrs Nisbet’s formal Declaration ceremony. His wife, Emma, who is the founder and manager of Bristol Northwest Foodbank, was also in attendance at the special occasion. 

The High Sheriff of Bristol is an independent, non-political Royal appointment for a single year, focusing on ceremonial, judicial, and community safety roles. They support the judiciary, emergency services, and crime prevention initiatives, often focusing on youth crime reduction, while also promoting voluntary work and supporting the Crown. 

As part of her year in office, High Sheriff Anne Nisbet DL has committed to “a special focus on championing Bristol’s next generation by supporting organisations that help young people's aspirations – and create opportunities to bring those dreams to life.” 

Andy will support the High Sheriff throughout the year by offering pastoral care, prayer, and a spiritual presence at civic engagements and events across the city and county. 

Speaking after the ceremony, Andy said he was "honoured to take up the role" and looked forward to working alongside partners across Bristol who are "committed to supporting young people and strengthening communities".
