New Ministry Experience Scheme cohort begin year of exploring vocations

The Diocese of Bristol, alongside the Diocese of Bath and Wells, is pleased to share that the 2025-2026 Ministry Experience Scheme has been launched. The year-long opportunity is designed for young adults aged 18 to 30 who are exploring whether God may be calling them to ministry within the Church of England. Throughout the year, participants serve in a mission-focused context, gaining valuable hands-on experience. Alongside their practical involvement, each individual receives theological training and one-to-one mentoring to support their personal and spiritual growth.

In the Bath and Wells Diocese, Alfie Rendell and Finley Jones are giving a year to God through a placement at Wells Cathedral supervised by The Dean, The Very Reverend Toby Wright, and Helen Weld, a vocations advisor for the Diocese.

In the Diocese of Bristol, Tristan Hagger and Deborah Hennery are exploring their vocations through their ministry experience placements. Tristan is based in the Avonside Mission area and will be supervised by Revd Jema Ball. Deborah is based in Fromeside, where she will be supervised by Revd David Jones.

Speaking about the scheme, Tristan said: “The Ministry Experience Scheme has allowed me to immerse myself in the sacramental side of my faith and my relationship with God has really grown because of this. I love to help others, and I am grateful for the number of opportunities I have had to do this throughout the past year. I am living my dream job and I’m looking forward to a second year deepening my relationship with God and discerning my vocation.”
