Nelson Mandela, 1918-2013

First published 6th December 2013

The world mourns the loss of Nelson Mandela and remembers and celebrates all that he stood for: freedom, reconciliation and hope.

Christians and churches are encouraged to pray for his family, his friends and his country and to give thanks for what he did to change our world.

"Nelson Mandela was a man who combined the greatest personal humility with an unceasing will for justice and human dignity," said Bishop Mike.

"He understood himself and his fellow human beings to be children of God, created in His likeness and therefore equal. Nelson Mandela's life is an example to the generations that have followed him. He will be greatly missed but forever remembered. I give thanks for the remarkable ministry he offered in this world."

A book of condolence is available at Bristol City Hall (main lobby).
