Hazelnut Community Farm, a church based in an urban farm setting, has started a new project called the Potting Shed. The six-month online course will equip Christians in creating their own faith-based growing communities.
Groups will meet weekly on Zoom to discuss and learn about topics such as growing plans, connecting with local communities, and leading worship in gardens.
Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, John described the Potting Shed as “a space where you can bring a group together to talk about your vision and what you want to do, and also meet with other experts” (full interview here, from 1.53.20).
Group attendees include: “Vicars, allotment-holders, Anglicans, Independent Christians, Baptists, and many others. We have groups from across the UK. Some are just starting out and dreaming about what could be, while others are already well established. It's great!
“We’ve got some amazing people helping us teach the classes: Incredible Edible Bristol, A Rocha UK, Edge Ministry, environmental mission from Lichfield Diocese, and a member of the gardening team from Ightham Mote National Trust.”
Hazelnut’s other new project launching later this month, The Big Harvest, aims to “to connect Church harvest festivals with growing and giving”. The website will be updated soon with information, resources, liturgy, recipes and more.
