Celebrating Thy Kingdom Come at Bristol Cathedral

First published 3rd June 2019

Bristol Cathedral was filled with more than 350 people on Sunday night as part of Thy Kingdom Come beacon event.

People of all ages and from across denominations came together in unity to encounter Jesus and pray for God's Kingdom to come in our communities.

Bishop Viv spoke at the service of prayer, worship and reflections alongside Esther Swaffield-Bray, from international Justice Mission which aims to end slavery in our lifetime.

Esther told those who had gathered for the service: God has always been looking to set the captives free, and today He is looking for people who will stand and cry let my people go. Prayer has the power to change lives and set people free across the globe.

Revd John White, curate at St Mary Magdalen, Stoke Bishop, helped to organise the service.

He said: "What an amazing night - 350 people coming together to worship and pray for unity and justice in our communities. Thanks to all the amazing people that made it happen!"

Plans are already in place for next year's event with Peter Greig of 24-7 Prayer International lined up to speak at the cathedral beacon event next year.
