    Four parishes in the Diocese of Bristol have been given recognition in the first round of DAC Awards.

    The awards have been introduced by the Advisory Committee to recognise the huge amount of work that is done in our parishes to care for the church buildings and adapt them to support mission and growth.

    Simon Pugh Jones, Chair of the DAC said: "These parish projects are carried out by many people, working with incredible commitment and passion, often with significant obstacles to be overcome."

    The parishes given awards this year were:

    • All Saints, Sutton Benger for its creation of kitchen area, WC and meeting room in their tower;
    • St Mary the Virgin, Marshfield for work within their north aisle to upgrade the existing kitchen and add toilets and storage cupboard;
    • All Saints, Sherston for their project to transform their north aisle into a flexible useable area for coffee, children’s activities and community gatherings with a servery; and
    • All Saints, Lyddington whose church bells now ring after more than half a century of planning.

    Each of the parishes was presented with a certificate of recognition, from Bishop Mike and the DAC.

    The award scheme aims to celebrate cases where work is carried out which allows the parish to focus anew on its mission and in bringing people to faith in Christ. This will be an annual scheme of awards, recognising particular projects that have been completed to an exceptional standard of workmanship or those that have been key to a parish’s growth and mission.

    The scheme has been supported and kindly sponsored by Ecclesiastical which has a keen interest in our church buildings in the Diocese.

    Nominations for DAC Awards may be made by anyone throughout the year and projects must be complete at the time of nomination. Awards will usually be made between Christmas and Easter.
