The Diocese of Bristol is led by the Bishop of Bristol and governed by our Diocesan Synod. Andrew Lucas is the Chairman of the Bristol Diocesan Board of Finance Ltd.

The Bishop's Council is also the Board of Directors for the Bristol Diocesan Board of Finance Ltd. and the Diocesan Mission and Pastoral Committee.

Synodical governance provides a system for partnership with the Bishop, ensuring that the Diocese can consider matters together and move forward in agreement. Each of our deaneries is also governed by a Deanery Synod.

The Church of England is governed by the General Synod of which the Queen is Supreme Governor.

The Diocesan Synod is an elected body which considers issues relating to the mission of the Church, advises the Bishop and is consulted by him and agrees the Diocese’s financial plans.

Diocesan Synod Reports are published online in the Diocesan Synod News section here.

Diocesan Synod meeting papers can be found under the events listing for that Synod meeting in the events calendar here.

General Synod legislates for the whole of the Church of England, debates matters of national and international importance and sets the national Church’s budget.

The Diocese of Bristol elects three Clergy and three Lay representatives alongside the Bishop of Bristol to be members of the General Synod. Find out more about General Synod here.
