Day twenty-four: Meet Murray Hepburn

Murray HepburnFor Murray, ministry has always been about relationships. He draws inspiration from Jesus, who preached to crowds but invested deeply in His disciples, equipping them to take the gospel to the world.

“Ministry is all about relationships. I am passionate about preaching, but I am also very keen to mentor those younger in the faith, as others did for me when I was a young Christian.”

For Murray, having someone who listens and walks alongside you can make a huge difference in a person’s journey of faith. That’s why mentoring is central to his calling. Alongside preaching and leading services, Murray sees another vital part of his ministry: supporting those in full-time leadership.

“Being in Christian leadership can be a lonely place, and I feel my role is very much to be a support and encouragement to the ordained people I work with.”

Recently, Murray and his wife found a creative way to offer that support. They bought a canal narrowboat, named Alongsider, which they plan to lend to friends and clergy as a place for short retreats or holidays.

Murray’s story reminds us that ministry takes many forms, but at its heart is the call to walk alongside others, offering encouragement, space, and hope.
