About the Role
St John's Haydon Wick is seeking a dedicated, organised, and proactive Children and Youth Pastor — someone who loves Jesus, is growing in Him, and is passionate about making Him known to our congregation, community, and beyond. This person will lead and grow our children and youth ministry, creating a welcoming and Spirit-filled environment for all children and young people, and nurturing them in the likeness of Christ.
Position Details
Position: Children and Youth Pastor (Part-Time)
Line Manager: Vicar
Purpose: To lead, develop, and oversee spiritual formation for children and youth; building effective volunteer teams and community outreach
Hours: 20 hours per week, including Sundays
Salary: £18 per hour
DBS: Enhanced DBS check required prior to commencement
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone to:
- Provide pastoral care for, and disciple in the Christian faith, school-age children and young people.
- Present the Christian message, within our community, to children and young people who do not yet belong to a church — with the aim of bringing them to faith and discipleship.
- Help shape the life and worship at St John's in a way that is attractive to children and young people, empowering the young to have a voice in the life, ministry, and leadership of the church.
- This post is subject to an occupational requirement that the postholder be a practising Christian under part 1 of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.
We are looking for someone with a living and mature Christian faith who has a track record in fruitful work with children and young people, and in building volunteer teams.
The role is a 3-year contract, with a 6-month probationary period.
Key Responsibilities
Ministry Oversight
- Plan and oversee weekly Sunday children's groups
- Plan and oversee the weekly Sunday evening youth group
- Develop and deliver age-appropriate discipleship curricula
- Give talks at All Age services
- Maintain regular links with primary schools in the parish, including school assemblies alongside the clergy.
- Plan and lead special events (e.g. Light Party, Children's Christmas Nativity, Christingle)
- To create and lead a weekly afterschool club
- To create and lead the weekly Toddler group (Little Stars)
- Plan and deliver seasonal events (holiday clubs, family fun days, etc.)
- Work together with the children and youth leaders
General Notes:
It is the practice of the St John’s PCC to periodically review job descriptions, update them and ensure that they relate to the job performed, or to incorporate any proposed changes.
