Rev Howard SMITH, ordained a priest to be Assistant Curate (OLM) in the Benefice and Parish of Winterbourne within the Fromeside Group.
“Strangely, the transition from being a Lay Minister of 28 years, to taking Holy orders as a Deacon this last year, has not been particularly significant for me in terms of what I do as a Minister, but more in terms of who I am, and just being there for others. In many respects the experience could be likened to a metamorphosis e.g. “caterpillar becoming butterfly” better illustrated perhaps by some words from a Susan Boyle song, “Now it’s my turn to fly.”
I have experienced a huge sense of joy and privilege since being ordained, so now I look forward with a growing sense of excitement to what the “God of the unexpected” is going to do! As I’m also retiring from secular employment, I pray that I may become a faithful priest letting the Holy Spirit further develop my gift of “faith sharing” to lead others to Christ.”
