Church school’s film about the Sisters of the Church now online

Children from St Barnabas CofE Primary School in Montpelier have made a film about the work of the Sisters of the Church, an Anglican Community of nuns, with those in need in St Pauls and central Bristol.

Loaves & Fishes profiles the work of the Sisters providing over 200 bags of food a week for homeless and others in need. The film is available on the website of the Diocese of Bristol’s Department for Children & Young People who worked with the church school to make the film and can be used as an educational resource for children.

The film is particularly relevant at this time of year as the Sisters appeal for more provisions for their Harvest Appeal to redistribute to people in one of the most deprived wards of Bristol.

Year 6 children from St Barnabase acted as interviewers and camera operators with the help of Knowle West Media Centre who produced Loaves & Fishes. The children discovered how faith can motivate people to help others and live lives of self-sacrifice. They hope other children in Bristol and beyond can learn this lesson as it is shown in school worship, RE lessons, churches and Sunday school settings.

“The Sisters of the Church do fantastic and largely unsung work with Bristol’s most vulnerable,” says Bishop Mike. “It’s so encouraging to see young people being inspired by their work and wanting to promote it to others.”

The film was funded by the Bristol Archdeaconry Charity. To help the Sisters of the Church directly in their work, you can volunteer time or consider donating tinned food, cereals, rice, pasta, tin openers, plastic bags and dog food. To discuss volunteering, arrange a donation, or to find out more details, you can contact the Sisters on 0117 941 3268 or email hildamary@sistersofthechurch.org.uk
