The new Dean of Bristol, Revd Canon Dr David Hoyle, will be installed as Dean of Bristol by Bishop Mike on Saturday 29 May at Bristol Cathedral. Hundreds of guests will attend this major civic service to welcome David to the Diocese and the city.
David, whose appointment was announced by the Prime Minister last December, is no stranger to cathedral life, having spent the last seven years heading up training and support for ordained and lay ministry in the Diocese of Gloucester and as a Canon at Gloucester Cathedral.
“To be a Dean is a challenge and a huge privilege”, says Dr Hoyle. “To be Dean in a great city like Bristol, in a diocese that is growing in confidence in its mission, is really exciting.
“A Cathedral has an important job to do. It should be a focus for a city and a diocese. It should celebrate the richness and variety of life and be a place where different communities meet. In brief it should be a little glimpse of the Kingdom of God. But a cathedral is also a community itself and the Dean is privileged to be part of that community with a role in the way it says and does things.”
David is married to Janet, a primary school head teacher, and they have two teenage children.
“I know David will add a huge amount to this city and to the Diocese.” am really pleased that David is taking up this role,” says Bishop Mike.
