Christ Church, Swindon; Feedback from ‘Back to Church’

Christ Church, SwindonFor the first time this year Christ Church, Swindon took part in Back to Church Sunday on 28th September.

We were very encouraged by the response and would like to share our experience with friends across the diocese. We had one main morning act of worship at 10am with 60 guests present who had been invited by other members of the congregation. There was a lovely warm atmosphere in Christ Church.

As an ice breaker the congregation received balloons from the Sunday Club and then played balloon volley ball while the director of music played the match of day theme tune. The letters ‘VIP’ were on the balloons and the idea was as you touched the balloon you received the message of God’s love and that you were indeed a VIP to God. The whole process of preparing an act of worship with guests in mind was very beneficial and the sermon was based around the feeding of 5,000 with a painting Eularia Clarke.

At the end of the service the congregation came forward to the front as the choir sang the Lord bless you and keep you by John Rutter with the thought that these words were for ourselves and all the groups we are involved in – work, school, sports club, family. Afterwards virtually everybody stayed for refreshments and home made cakes (some prepared by Sunday Club) in Church.

The reaction from the guests and the congregation has been incredibly positive, one long standing member of the congregation in her late 70’s said it was the best service she had ever been too. We have a lot to build upon in the weeks and months ahead. We look forward to hearing others’ experiences via the web site.
