Saturday 2nd May – Sunday 10th May 2009
So ends an eventful week.
We had upwards of 250 people at St John’s, Haydon Wick for the launch of the week of celebrations. The choir had us all rocking in the aisles and Bishop Paul Kizito spoke about the joys and challenges of partnership. In the days that followed the choir toured the diocese from Cricklade to Coalpit Heath, from Crudwell
to Clifton. As the choir ministered we saw people open their lives to Christ, saw burdens lifted from shoulders amidst tears and laughter. Wherever they went the choir were entertained royally with English High Teas, Cream Teas, Candlelit dinners and good old fish and chips. They sang children’s songs with the very young, gently courted the older generation and had teenagers in Brunel Academy dancing and cheering.
The climax of the week was the service in Bristol Cathedral, attended by between 800 – 1000 people. The Cathedral Choir set the tone with a wonderful anth
em by William Mathias, the Anglican Youth Fellowship Choir invited us to come and meet Jesus at the cross of Calvary, Christ Church Downend’s worship band showed that the Brits have rhythm too, and the Gospel Choir from St Mary Redcliffe and Temple reminded us that knowing God is SO GOOD!
