Spectrum 2012 – Saturday 19th May

Bristol Cathedral

Welcome to the Spectrum website and a huge thank you to everyone who helped to make the 2011 event such a success.

Now we prepare for Spectrum 2012!

You can get involved this year by clicking on the ‘Get Involved’ tab above, but first some background info:

On Saturday 5th March 2011 a major event called SPECTRUM was held bringing together Christians  from across the Bristol area to celebrate the rich diversity of our work with  the people of Greater Bristol.  The event showcased Christian work across the city of Bristol and its surrounds.

Over fifty different church related groups came together to showcase the work they are doing in the Bristol area on Saturday 5th March. Located in the historic surrounds of Bristol Cathedral the celebration was attended by about 500 people who came to discover some of the rich diversity of outreach and service by churches across the city.

Exhibitors came from across the Spectrum of the Christian Church in Bristol. From ASPIRE Bristol to the World Community for Christian Meditation Bristol they all but represented an A-Z of Christian Ministry. Everything was present, from art to youth work, environmental concern to solar heating for churches, messy church to Mothers Union, Schools work to street pastors. A full list of participants is on this website.

Throughout the afternoon music groups, singers and choirs performed as a backdrop to the event, which culminated in a joint act of worship and thanksgiving.  The spirit of unity was magnificently expressed by a specially formed ecumenical choir, now known as the Spectrum Choir and still rehearsing and performing!

Feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive and we are now looking forward to SPECTRUM 2012.  It will be on Saturday 19th May and we are grateful to the Dean and Chapter for allowing us to use the historic Bristol
Cathedral for another year.  Rarely do we get a chance to learn about the many outreach projects and activities that Christians undertake, but Spectrum gives a glimpse of how much is already being done for  local communities.  So here’s your chance to be a part of it and showcase what you are doing in and around Bristol.  We would love to hear your story – no matter how small or tentative.  You can find out how to take part in the ‘get involved’ section on this website.

“I thought it was a wonderful event and we are all in favour of unity among the churches in Bristol, so yes, more for next year.” Christine Hales – stall holder
