Church Jargon

Possibly stemming from the fourth century (or The Chuckle Brothers; nobody knows); church jargon is amongst the best and most confusing in the world. Many thanks to East Barnet parish church for many of the explanations below:

Feel free to add your own links here. Make sure you check it once you've saved it. If your link looks red once you've done it, it's because you're missing the 'http://' bit.

Please note: when you put a link in, the code includes a division
symbol between the description and the URL
Example: [[http://www.bristol-uganda.co.uk|Bristol Uganda Link]]

Welcome to the Christian Information Genome Project

Although 'Churchipedia' may sound gimmicky, the idea is to provide an information resource which, like Wikipedia, anyone can edit or add information to. This means, logic fans, that the site is truly democratic and relies on good-willing people to update it with huge great facts, from explaining church jargon to advice on setting up a Healing conference.
A church has probably stood on this site for over a thousand years but it came to prominence in 1140 when Robert Fitzhardinge founded the Abbey of St. Augustine. The Chapter House and Abbey Gatehouse remain clearly to be seen: other remains are within Bristol Cathedral Choir School.

Our web team has built Churchipedia in response to various requests. Why is it here? Well, for someone starting Curate training or wanting to know what 'Benefice' means it might be handy to have a repository of useful information available and searchable online. The only reasonable way to manage that volume of information is to get everyone involved! The downside to any Wiki is that it's open to abuse, so we'll keep an eye on it and introduce password-protection as soon as it heads south.
