Branding

The Diocese of Bristol is rebranding! This means we’re making all of our documents and communication consistent and modern. Good plan, eh?

This process will affect all those who represent the Diocese directly; not parishes necessarily but certainly those who work in diocesan offices or who produce any documentation on behalf of the Diocese itself.

Please take a look at the Style Guide to get a feel for the key points (use of logos, fonts, colours etc).

Why are we rebranding at all?

Why we have updated the logo >>
The old Diocesan logo had at least five incarnations of varying qualities. At the very least we needed to choose a single logo simply to be consistent across the organisation.

We've taken this opportunity to simplify the logo as shown at the top of this page; chopping out the old 'Ecclesiastical Heraldry' crest in favour of a logo which makes sense to a modern society. The old crest logo would make sense if we were all about history; maintaining a castle or promoting a university. We're doing neither of these, so our corporate identity has been brought into line with the more modern context in which we work.

Finally, we are not all about being cool or adhering to fashion, so a 'trendy' brand would not be appropriate. Aside from 'trying too hard', a fashionable brand would need to change every two to three years. Instead we've aimed for a timeless yet modern approach; building an identity with a shelf life of at least five to ten years which can be maintained through a three-year cycle.

Why we have updated our stationery >>
As with the logo, we had a huge number of different letterheads and business cards across the organisation. If two seperate departments were to write to the same person, that person would be forgiven for thinking those departments work for different organisations. This has been addressed with consistency.

Sam Cavender has been travelling to the diocesan offices to aid with the process of updating stationery templates, from letterheads to forms, invoices and email footers.

Downloads and resources

Please change your default font in Word
1. Open up Word; you should see a blank document
2. On the Format menu, click Font (in Word 2007, in the Font group, click the Font Options arrow - it's just below the text colour chooser)
3. Select the font (Arial) and the point size (11)
4. Click Default
5. When you receive the message "Do you want to change the default font to font name?", click Yes

Bob should then be your uncle.
