Week of prayer and fasting for social action

First published 21st December 2016

During the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Together4Bristol and Christian Action Bristol have called for a week of prayer and fasting to prepare for transformation of our city through engaging in social action.

Churches are being encouraged to take part in the week of prayer, which will take place from 18 to 25 January 2017.

Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly. Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD.

Joel 1:14

The hope is that Christians across Bristol will pray individually and in their churches throughout the week for guidance on how we can best engage with our localities and with wider issues of social justice, seeking:

  • A fresh vision of our individual relationship with God;
  • A fresh awareness of how we can work together as Christians for the good of our communities;

  • A sharper focus on who or what He wants us personally to get involved with, how to go about this and what resource to release to enable this to happen.

Son of man, look carefully and listen closely and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for that is why you have been brought here.

Ezekiel 40:4
